Current career, studies or future plans

I am currently in the final year of my MSc Physician Associate Studies at the University of Leeds. Following completion of my national exams, I am due to qualify as a registered Physician Associate (PA) this autumn. I hope to begin my career as a PA after qualifying and look forward to applying the knowledge and clinical skills I have developed throughout my studies.

How Morna helped shape my journey

Morna International College played an important role in shaping my academic and personal journey, providing me with a supportive and diverse environment in which I developed confidence, independence and resilience. The school's international environment broadened my perspective and encouraged me to embrace different cultures and experiences, skills that have been invaluable throughout my studies at Cardiff University and the University of Leeds. As I prepare to qualify as a Physician Associate, I am grateful to Morna for helping shape my ambitions and providing the foundations for my future career in healthcare.

Samanie Oliver-Denyer

Weddings & Special Events Coordinator · The Savoy

A Levels at Morna: Chemistry, Psychology and Media

Where are you now?

Working at The Savoy as a Weddings & Special Events Coordinator. After completing A Levels in Chemistry, Psychology and Media, I chose to go straight into the world of work rather than university.

Favourite Morna memory

One of my favourite memories from Morna was my time as Head Girl in Year 13, when I organised and ran a football tournament. It was such a special experience as I had the opportunity to work closely with teachers and students to bring the event together. Seeing everyone getting involved, having fun and coming together as a school community was incredibly rewarding. It was a moment that allowed me to develop my leadership and organisational skills, while creating a memory that I will always treasure.

A member of staff who made a difference

Everyone at Morna has played a part in making my time at the school so special, but my Chemistry teacher, Zahrah, had a particularly significant impact on my journey. From the start of Year 12, she really pushed me to believe in myself and encouraged me to reach my full potential. Her support, encouragement and high expectations helped me thrive, both academically and personally, and gave me the confidence to challenge myself.

Advice to current students

My time at Morna played a huge part in shaping who I am today. The support I received from staff gave me the confidence to believe in myself and take a less conventional path after school. Rather than going to university, I chose to go straight into work, walking into hotels with my CV in hand, and that determination eventually led me to The Savoy. My advice to current students is to believe in yourself, don't be afraid to do things differently, and remember that there is no single “right” path to success.

Favourite Morna memory

A bittersweet moment for me was giving the end of school speech, celebrating what my peers and I had achieved, thanking those who inspired us, and giving the next generation my two pence — it marked a heartfelt end of an era.

A member of staff who made a difference

Zahrah, Head of Sixth Form and my Chemistry teacher, inspired me to pursue Chemistry and give my studies my all, whilst also being there for me if and when I had any problems during my formative years.

Advice to current students

Morna is a second home to me, a school where I grew up and developed amongst my peers into the young man I am today. Some of what I learned beyond my studies was to be myself, work hard for my dreams, and never be afraid to ask for help.

Favourite Morna memory

It’s difficult to choose one memory after 14 years, but the Stargazing Event and Football Event IV stand out. I organised the Stargazing Event in Year 11 with the Bronze DofE Students, and seeing it come to life was unforgettable. In my final year, more than 500 people came together for Football Event IV, raising €10,020 for Ibiza y Formentera Contra el Cáncer. Seeing the Morna community support all the events over my years at Morna makes me incredibly proud.

Advice to current students

Put yourself forward for things, even if you don’t feel completely ready. I started as a Year 7 class representative and went on to become Head Student, learning something new with every event, meeting and challenge along the way. Your ideas can make a real difference at Morna, so share them and give them a go.

How Morna helped shape my journey

Morna gave me the space to grow up, try new things and discover what I enjoy doing. Through the student council, charity events, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and my work on the school’s social media, I learned how to lead a team and turn an idea into something real. A particularly meaningful experience was volunteering at a school in The Gambia with the Lisa Kent Trust as part of the Residential Trip in the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Helping teach lessons and seeing how much the children enjoyed learning and playing with us strengthened my commitment to the charity. I’ve since been invited to become one of the trustees of the Lisa Kent Trust, and the relationships I built with the charities we supported at Morna are ones I hope to carry with me for life. Just as importantly, I had teachers and friends who supported me throughout those 14 years.

Rosie Peppe

Drama and Creative Writing · Queen Mary University · 2025 Year Abroad at Columbia University, studying Acting and Music Production

Years at Morna: 2008 – 2023

Where I am now

I have been working professionally as a singer and songwriter since the age of 15, performing at a high level five nights a week alongside artists and performers from productions including Cirque du Soleil and the Super Bowl Halftime Show. Now a full-time songwriter and vocalist, I work primarily across the house music scene, with releases on Danny Howard’s label, Nothing Else Matters. I am currently involved in sessions with artists including Josh Baker, Manu Gonzalez, Ammo Avenue and Elliot Schooling, with my collaboration with Manu Gonzalez and Ammo Avenue surpassing 100,000 streams. Alongside my music career, I spent a year studying abroad at Columbia University, achieving straight A’s. During my time there, I became the first exchange student to open Columbia’s renowned student music festival, Bacchanal, performing in front of thousands of students and opening for Waka Flocka Flame. From performing professionally from a young age to writing and releasing music with established names in the house scene, I have built my career around versatility, high-level performance and songwriting.

Favourite Morna memory

I have so many memories that span such a large portion of my life that it is hard to choose just one. They range from being six years old, running across the old primary tarmac to my older brother Tom in Secondary after being told not to (which, if I’m honest, was a running theme for me as a student at Morna), to simply meeting what are now my chosen family, the group of friends I made during my time there. Now, at 21, having lived in four different cities since leaving Ibiza, the one constant in my life has been the friends I made at Morna. They are, and always will be, the reason for everything I strive to be: kind, loving and understanding towards everyone I meet and everything I experience.

A member of staff who made a difference

My English Literature teacher, Tamsin Paddy, and Drama teacher, Claire Plummer, had a huge influence on my love of the performing arts. Having two inexplicably strong women as my two favourite teachers, as a young woman with very strong opinions about the world, my position in it, and how I could articulate that to others, gave me a space where I felt safe to challenge, question and vocalise those opinions. They encouraged me to speak about issues that are so important for young women to have the space to explore throughout their education, even when those views might challenge the status quo. They are a huge part of the reason I feel comfortable putting my hand up in Ivy League universities today, and why I can speak about theatre at a scholarly level with confidence. Most importantly, they simply accepted me at a time when I perhaps did not fully accept myself. For giving me that space, and for helping me become the person I am today, I can never repay them.

My time at Morna and advice to current students

My time at Morna is absolutely unmatched. From annual Christmas school plays, whether I was playing a poppy flower in The Wizard of Oz or Sandy in Grease, to sports days nearing the summer, followed two weeks later by Speech Days where you would hear the older students speak about their future endeavours. The charity marathons, the Tuc Shop, the second-language musicals, or rounders with Leon, these are the memories that make my time at Morna so special. If I had one piece of advice, it would be to treat school the same way you treat your family. These are people you grow alongside during some of the most important years of your life, and you never know which lessons will end up being the most important along the way. As a student who did not have the most linear journey, the one thing that has led me to where I am today is genuinely having an open heart towards the people who wanted me to succeed, both academically and personally. It is not uncool to be interested in books, and it does not make you cooler to be interested in music. Every passion, interest, intelligence and pursuit is as valuable as the next. Morna taught me that whether you are an artist or a mathematician, every person has something valuable to offer, regardless of their background. That is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
