Meet Our School Nurse
Guadalupe Piernagorda Aguilera | School Nurse
Guadalupe qualified as a nurse in Córdoba in 2000 and brings over 25 years of professional healthcare experience to Morna International College.
After moving to Ibiza in 2003, she worked at Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario before becoming Supervisor at Residencia Sa Copa in Jesús, a position she held from 2007 to 2017. She subsequently returned to the Policlínica, working in outpatient care, before joining Morna in 2020.
Guadalupe holds a university-level qualification in Nursing from the Córdoba School of Nursing, together with a Master's Degree in Emergency and Acute Care Nursing (2023). She is also qualified as a Specialist Technician in Diagnostic Radiology and has undertaken additional professional training in intensive care, wound care and treatment, clinical nursing procedures, healthcare management and healthy and active ageing.
She is registered with the Official College of Nurses of the Balearic Islands (Registration No. 8856).
At Morna, Guadalupe provides daily medical care and support to students from EYFS through to Sixth Form, as well as members of staff. Her responsibilities include assessing and treating illnesses and injuries, managing medication, maintaining medical records and advising families and colleagues on health-related matters.
She works closely with families and healthcare professionals to support students with ongoing medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and severe allergies. Where necessary, she develops individual healthcare plans and ensures that appropriate emergency procedures are in place.
Guadalupe also coordinates medical emergencies, oversees first aid provision throughout the school and advises on medical arrangements for sports activities, educational visits and residential trips.
Where an accident during the school day requires external medical attention or follow-up appointments, she also assists families with coordinating care through the school's insurance arrangements, subject to the applicable cover.
Our Medical Facilities
Morna has a fully equipped Medical Room conveniently located beside Reception and the Main Office.
The facilities include a dedicated consultation and treatment room, together with an adjoining observation room where students or staff can rest and be monitored when necessary.
First aid supplies are available at designated locations throughout the campus, and the school is equipped with emergency medical equipment, including an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
First Aid Training Across the School
In addition to our full-time School Nurse, Morna has numerous qualified first aiders working across EYFS, Primary, Secondary, Administration and the Sports Department.
Staff undertake regular refresher training to maintain their practical skills and ensure they are prepared to respond appropriately to accidents, injuries and medical emergencies.
Guadalupe also supports first aid training across the school, providing staff with guidance on recognising severe allergic reactions and the use of adrenaline auto-injectors, such as EpiPens, in the event of anaphylaxis.
Specialist Paediatric First Aid in EYFS
The safety and wellbeing of our youngest students are particularly important.
In addition to the school's general first aid provision, every member of our EYFS team holds a specific qualification in Paediatric First Aid, with the entire team having completed this training in June 2026.
This specialist training ensures that staff working with our youngest children have the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond confidently and appropriately to medical emergencies involving young children.
Our School Nurse also supports the implementation of medical care and first aid procedures within EYFS.
Health Education & Medical Awareness
Guadalupe also plays an active role in promoting health education across the school, delivering age-appropriate sessions on first aid, personal health and relationships and sexual health education.
Through practical activities and guidance, she helps students develop a greater understanding of their health, learn essential first aid skills and make informed decisions about their personal health and safety.
Supporting Individual Medical Needs
We recognise that some students require additional medical support during the school day.
Our School Nurse works closely with families to develop individual healthcare plans where necessary, coordinate medication and establish appropriate emergency procedures.
She also works with relevant teaching and support staff to ensure that students receive consistent and appropriate care throughout the school day.
All medical information is treated confidentially and shared only with those members of staff who need it to provide appropriate care and safeguard students.
Vaccinations & Parental Consent
From time to time, Morna facilitates vaccination programmes organised and delivered by local health authorities, including IB-Salut.
Our School Nurse assists with the practical coordination of these programmes and communication with families. Vaccinations are administered by the healthcare professionals responsible for each programme.
Participation is entirely voluntary, and the decision to vaccinate rests with parents or legal guardians.
No student will ever receive a vaccination at school without the prior, express and informed consent of their parent or legal guardian.
The school respects each family's individual decision.
