Recently, Year 5 went to visit the Observatory Puig des Molins in Ibiza town.
While they were there, the children first attended a class with expert astronomers who taught them many things about the Sun and the Solar System using videos and pictures to help explain. The astronomers were very impressed with how much the children already knew.
Later, they were taken up to the dome where there are two “state of the art” telescopes; the children were able to use the special filtered telescope to view the Sun. The children were amazed to see the Sun so closely that they could even the flares and some of the Sun spots.
A great morning was had by everyone and we are planning to extend the trip to include a night observation in the next academic year.
